Live Streaming of Bill Gates‘ opening at the 61st Nobel Laureate Meeting enabled by Axinom and Level 3

Fuerth - Germany, June 24, 2011 – On Sunday, June 26, 2011, the 61st Meeting of the Nobel Laureates started in Lindau at Lake Constance. Bill Gates, honorary senator of the Lindau Foundation, holding the annual gathering; gave a short speech and took part in a panel discussion with young researchers and Nobel Prize winner Ada E. Yonath about the challenges in science and research of global health. Axinom and Level 3 enabled the delivery of the recorded opening ceremony and the lectures of the 23 Nobel Prize winners using on-demand streaming.

The annual Nobel Laureate Meetings in Lindau provide a globally recognized forum for the transfer of knowledge between Nobel Laureates and young researchers. Between June 26 and July 1, about 23 Nobel Laureates, 566 young researchers from 77 countries are assembling at Lake Constance to discuss advances in medical research. Besides genome and drug research, the focus of this year’s meeting is on the main theme “Global Health”, which is also an important matter of the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation. "I believe we have the opportunity to make a new future in which global health is the cornerstone of global prosperity," philanthropist Bill Gates professes his motivation recently.

Jointly, IT expert Axinom and network specialist Level 3 Communications made the streaming of the opening ceremony including the panel discussion about „Global Health“ with on-demand streaming services possible. Using a smooth streaming solution developed by Axinom the content is presented by a Silverlight based web application: the new mediatheque of the Nobel Laureates meetings. To ensure the best streaming quality, delivery of data is managed by “Content Delivery Network Services“, augmented by Level 3 Communications.

Today, lectures of the Nobel Laureates can be provided on-demand for everyone interested without restrictions of time and place. The mediatheque developed by Axinom contributes perfectly to the realization of our „Mission Education“: To support transfer of ideas between academics regardless of the nationality, age, gender or financial background they might have“, explains Wolfgang Huang, Director Executive Secretariat of the Council for the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings.

The new mediatheque of the Nobel Laureate gatherings was initially launched as BETA version to the public at the 61st meeting. All information such as event agendas, photos or videos as well as abstracts of the researchers are offered by the new mediatheque and are managed along with the Nobel Laureate website by the Axinom Content Management System AxCMS.net.
